Summer Vacation – Let’s Do Something Cool!

Alright ladies, we are all going to get swamped with summer vacation home work of our kids in few days. The endless list of art and craft material, glitter papers, color sheets and crayons make our rooms come alive. I can also envisage some of us making persistent requests to hubbies to get the print outs from the offices. And, while we are trying to be on the top of it we constantly get annoyed of the summer vacation homework that is in no correlation with our kid’s class or education. Somewhere, secretly you are also upset as this may spoil your already planned summer vacation time. Whilst, you frown alone, your kids seem aloof of this turmoil erupted within you. So dearies, let’s think of some innovative ways to stay motivated and happy. I’ve come up with few ideas and let you decide which one suit you better…

Get onto your hobby, oh! Common now, aren’t we all a creative bunch of species. Be it cooking and presenting it to our guests or designing our own sari border for that prefect look. We do all of it with élan. So, I’ve decided to get to writing and as you read this; you must know that I’m already on my way to beat the Summer Vacation Homework Blues Syndrome (SVHBS). I know of my friend who works as a financial analyst with a popular corporate giant bakes such wonderful cakes that she now bakes marriage, anniversary, kids’ birthday cakes etc. This only during weekends and her plate is every time full with such orders. An idea that started as hobby gave her a new identity. And, this without letting her career hamper. Another friend of mine is a tattoo design artist who also happens to be a software engineer. Wake up ladies, get that nail art ideas going or try out your hands on lovely summer fresh smoothies/mocktails for your kids and hubby for they are going to be back from play and office.

Run – run for your life; literally in this sense. Running makes your heart younger and thus life longerJ . Or buy those sexy yoga pants and get going. During my early morning walks in the society where I live, I notice one lady in her middle age jogging so much that I sometimes wonder where does she gets her stamina from. Her make-up intact (even at 5:00 AM), curly hair tied up neatly in ponytail, perfect jogging track pants and shoes and envious body shape for her age. I must admit, that women who are obsessed with any idea will do it with such perfection. I would also recommend to get enrolled in aerobic classes. It’s so much fun to sway your body on the loud music that you won’t know how much calories you’ve burnt in the process.

Another one in my list is to go on a detox diet for a week. My bestie and I’ve decided to go for fruit shopping that would last for a week. We are going to keep a tab on each other so we don’t get to cheat and cheer each other up. Dark red water melon, sweet fragrance of musk melon, juicy oranges, sweet grapes, healthy bananas and delicious litchis are all in the list. Just imagine the taste of these all once you chill them up and binge on during the summery/sultry afternoon. Heavenly!! This is only going to cleanse my digestive system and make me feel better of my body!!Ladies, I can’t wait to stock my refrigerator up and mark a week in my calendar. What say you? Anybody?

Catch up on the old romantic movies when kids sleep during the noon or need to have that hush-hush time with your husband during the night. I’m half way through the list that includes Sweet November, Pretty Woman, P.S. I love you, Accidental husband, The bounty hunter and Love actually notting hill to name a few. Make your own list and stock up some ice cream in your refrigerator; put the kids off to bed. Turn on your movie and relish the dessert with just your hubby. Can it get any better to rewind your romance?

Read for it widens your horizons. I’m a voracious reader and honestly nothing like getting hooked to a good book. If your kids see you reading then they would also take their books off of the shelves and blow of the dust. This is a tried and tested trick. I see my daughter who is 9, taking out her Thea Selton the moment I took my book (Another face in crowd by Indraneel DG) and put my glasses on (Yes, I wear glasses for reading and working on computer, something I detest a lot.) I can recommend you some cool books of every genre, from comedy to nail biting suspense to Sci-Fi to Autobiographies to management etc. You can count on me for a good suggestion.

Get your hands dirty, err I’m talking about getting all muddy in the garden. If you are living in the apartments where place is a constraint; fret not for you can turn your balcony into a small garden. Explore such options on the net, make a sparrow nest and hang it in the balcony, get the shovel and you will notice your kids are already a part of it. Let them plant a seed or develop a kitchen garden. This is a practical way of learning for they will learn the germination process that will imprint in their tiny brains for life. Keep your ‘muddy time’ fixed for everyday with kids and witness the excitement when they notice the plants growing.

Ladies, make the best use of summer holidays for you don’t have to get up early to get your kids ready to send them off to school. No lunch box for fussy kids, no rush of maids so just relax and make memories as summers are here.

Let’s all stay hydrated, happy and healthy to beat the SVHBS.

True on that, you read my mind. The purpose of writing this one was for the women who have many hidden qualities and I really wish we realize them and celebrate.
